Dear Actively Involved Fellow Mainer:

As the last independent US Senate candidate still able to attempt nomination by ballot, with a hearing on our appeal set for this Tuesday, I am contacting everyone who helped us in our campaign, and to whom we offered attention and/or assistance.

I am writing to ask if you could put in a half hour today to give our campaign some needed help, by calling people who had their signatures discounted. If you can possibly spare this time today, we will send you a list to call and the simple instructions.

There is a chance that we will actually get on the ballot. If you will help us collect some needed evidence which will take one half-hour per person, we will be ready with all we need to proceed. The lawyer, Jon Languet, has assured me that we have a ready and worthwhile defense by showing that all our validated signatures should indeed be counted.

This is one independent Yankee who needs to ask for your help. Having collected nearly all the signatures myself, I can vouch for the fact that they were properly vetted--and therefore, probably overly rejected. We just need a few dozen out of the thousand which were discounted.
Herbert Hoffman’s legal efforts have helped, by providing a template by which we can assert some necessary defenses. If you wanted either that campaign to succeed, or this one, either way, you will be advancing both causes by giving a half hour today.
Please respond ASAP.

Thank you. I appreciate your consideration of this request-and although you won’t be able to count on any ‘special favors’ as a result of helping, you can count on the fact that nobody else will be getting any, either. This is one special interest free campaign, right down to the ‘last ditch’!
Sincerely,
Laurie Dobson
Independent Candidate for U.S. Senate
The hearing is set for 10:30 a.m.
The location: Maine Superior Courthouse, Augusta

Although I'm thinking that pretty much anyone has to be better than the two Rinos who are now occupying Maine's place in the Senate, can you tell us something of Laurie Dobson, as I am personally unfamiliar with her candidacy.

Welcome to the forum, by the way. Things are a bit slow here right now but, since posts beget posts, there's always a potential for life.

  Dobson’s Appeal Still Waiting......
And so, after working with  lawyer Jon Languet and several phone call volunteers for the last four days nonstop, we just found out that the Maine Superior Court has canceled the hearing tomorrow for Dobson vs. The Secretary of State.

The reason given by Judge Jabar, who recused himself, three days before the ballots need to be done by clerks, was ‘conflict of interest’.

Curiously, this conflict didn’t seem to affect the judge’s decision to decide to rule for a hearing on August 7th, and then to postpone setting the hearing date until tomorrow-- August 26th, and then canceling it at the last minute.

‘Blind’ justice. What an education I am getting. Trying to stay open, not guarded. It’s easy to lose faith but I am fighting hard to keep believing.
